Our annual pumpkin carving party was a hit!

Together with our extended Rolling Greens family we had fun, decorated some amazing pumpkins, and had good eats! Our menu consisted of some of the best Fall recipes and cocktails from our favorite cookbooks.  Of course we had to share!!

For the main course we served up a super delicious Turkey Chili from One Pan Two Plates by Carla Snyder. This terrific cookbook is a compilation of 70 recipes designed for a weeknight party of two. Focusing on reduced prep time and eliminating the usual sink full of dishes, this cookbook serves up simple, complete, and truly delicious meals.

What goes perfectly with Chili? Corn Bread of course!! This recipe for Double-Corn Corn Bread from Flour by Joanne Chang takes this Fall staple to the next level. From the kitchen at Boston’s Flour Bakery + Café, Chang brings us 150 recipes such as a Milky Way Tart and a Dried Fruit Focaccia plus essential baking tips for the home baker.

With all these yummy bites, we needed something to wash it all down with! The Stumpdown Vanilla Flip did the trick. Brought to us by The American Cocktail: 50 Recipes that Celebrate the Craft of Mixing Drinks from Coast to Coast, the Stumpdown Vanilla Flip is a refreshing twist on the classic drink. The editors of Imbibe Magazine have collected cocktail recipes from the best bartenders with modern twists on classics plus all-new creations. This must-have book explores America’s most intriguing regional cocktails, traditions, and stories.

To start off you will need a pumpkin, any kind will work, but the fairytale pumpkins have always been our favorite. Pumpkins with a flat top work best. Other materials include small 2" succulents, moss, hot glue or spray crafting glue will work too and floral wire. diy-pumpkin terrariums2

Step 1: Use a hot glue gun (or crafting glue) to adhere the  moss onto the top of the pumpkin. You want the moss to be about 1" deep. Trim the edges when you're done.

Step 2 & 3: Remove your succulents and break them apart. When picking your succulents it is best to have a range of sizes, color and textures.

Step 4: Begin to arrange the succulents. Start with the large cuttings first and fill in with the smaller ones. Make sure you pack them in tightly. diy-pumpkin terrariums4

Step 5 & 6: You can use floral wire to keep your succulents in place.

This year we are so excited to share with all of you the pumpkin carving, decorating, planting... (whatever floats your boat) party with our extended Rolling Greens family. Our marketing & visual team, interns, associates and their children gathered at the Beverly store after closing for food, fun, and of course…pumpkin carving and decorating!

We love all the smiles and family fun this event creates. Some fabulous looking pumpkins as well!

For some of the smaller white pumpkins our visual team used paint and glitter to dress up their pumpkins. This being a highly creative group, some of the pumpkin carving is more art than actual carving.
